  • New Hope Audubon meeting **Presenter has Changed!

New Hope Audubon's next meeting will be on March 4th, 2010 at the North Carolina Botanical Garden and will begin at 7pm with conversation and refreshments. We have chapter business at 7:30pm and the presentation usually starts around 8pm. Penny Padgett was to give a talk titled "Tick Talk: Everything you ever wanted to know about ticks, but were afraid to ask!" However, she is unable to attend the meeting. Instead, we will have Norm Budnitz discuss: "Birding the Pantanal in Brazil."
The Pantanal is reputed to be the world's largest wetland. Caymans and capybaras; marmosets and anteaters; rheas, macaws and jabirus--the Pantanal is rich with wildlife. Above the Pantanal is Chapada dos Guimaraes, with a whole different set of plants and animals. Take a photo tour with Norm to this glorious (and easily accessible!) part of Brazil. Refreshments will be served. Please contact Tom Driscoll (spttdrdshnk@yahoo.com ) if you have any questions. Everyone (even nonmembers) are welcome!

  • Eagle Platform is finished (but is currently flooded - more info to come)!
The Grand opening of the Observation platform is delayed - the platform is under water and we will need to inspect it after the water recedes.
Everyone is invited to attend the grand opening of the Jordan Lake eagle observation platform on Martha's Chapel road when it is rescheduled. There will be a nature hike to the platform and spotting scopes set up for viewing waterfowl and eagles (if they cooperate). This wildlife viewing area is a collaborative project involving the New Hope Audubon Society, US Army Corps of Engineers, and the NC Wildlife Resources Commision. Within WRC, there has been active participation from Wildlife Diversity, Game Lands, Engeering, and Enforcement staff. For more information please call Jeff Marcus, Piedmont Wildlife Diversity Supervisor at 910-281-4388 (w) or 910-322-9019 (cell).
Here are pictures from the Eagle Platform construction! After several delays all work major has been completed.

  • New Hope Audubon has a listserv that is available through Yahoo. We will send out notifications and reminders of programs, field trips, festivals, conservation news, counts, etc. If you already have a Yahoo userid and password, you may just sign in and follow the directions in order to join the group. The link is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newhopeaudubon/ If you don't have a Yahoo account you need to create a userid and password by following the directions on the screen to make these.
