THIS TRIP IS CURRENT FULL!

Join us for a hawk watch trip to Mahogany Rock on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

New Hope Audubon is leading a hawk watch to Mahogany Rock on the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25, 2022. This is a major migration route for Broad-wing Hawks and other raptors. We also will bird local sites (Stone Mountain State Park, Doughton Park, Mahogany Rock Mountain) for warblers and other fall migrants.

Leaders:
Leaders will be David Anderson, assisted by Vern Bothwell, Bo Howes, and Nan Dewire. The trip is limited to 14 participants. Please notify David Anderson at [email protected] if you plan to attend.

Location:
Mahogany Rock is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Durham. Participants will need to arrange their own accommodations. There are Airbnbs and cabins in the area. Local hotels include the High Meadows Inn in Roaring Gap and the Alleghany Inn in Sparta.

We recommend long pants, rain gear (just in case), a scope if you have one (might be able to focus on higher gliding hawks), and of course a camp chair for watching.

Registration Information
Those joining, please make a $50 donation to New Hope Audubon (all 3 days) or $20 for single days. You can mail a check (address below), bring funds with you, or use the website DONATE button at the top of this page.

For any questions, please contact David Anderson at [email protected].
